Notes: Blank backed. These reverse transfers were issued as a perforated sheet of 25 transfers that look like stamps. They say "Made in Germany" at the bottom of each stamp. Two different colorized stamp sheets have been seen with the same stamps on each, one with richer colors without a "Made in Germany" notation at the top of the sheet and the other with duller colors with a "Made in Germany" notation at the top of the sheet. The sheet with richard colors also has a "4" printed at the top right of the Pola Negri stamp which resides in the upper right corner of the sheet.
This product was originally sent to stores in with a larger cardboard backing with at least 10 stamp sheets stapled to the front of the cardboard. Above the stamp sheets, the cardboard backing contained the words "New Transfers - Warranted to Come Off." Another "Made in Germany" notation was on the cardboard as well as "W.S." It looks like the sheets were designed to be torn off and sold one at a time to customers.
W.S. stood for Wildman Sons. The company made many card sets from the 1930s through the 1950s. Their sets had various markins like "W.S.", "W.S. Corp.", "A.J. Wildman and Son", "A.J. Wildman". Based on the movie stars on the sheet, this product was clearly made in the 1920s.
Though there are 25 stamps on the sheet, there are only 17 different. Eight of the stars are printed twice on the sheet in the exact same pose (Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd, Chas Murray, Negri, Pickford, Rogers, and Turpin).
