Blank Backed. Unnumbered. These are anonymous biscuit cards which were issued with Meurisse chocolates. Meurisse was a Belgian company, though these cards were probably issued in Belgium and France and possibly other European countries. Many of these cards have a light gray shaded rectangle around the text of the name of the actor. An album was issued with this set which identifies Meurisse as the issuer.
Amit Benyovits send scans of an album holding 100 different cards in the set. Evelyn Brent and Camilla Horn were the only stars with two poses in that album. A second pose of Norma Shearer has been seen with a different group of cards, putting the known number of cards in this set at 101 at the moment.
Date info: The stars in this set date this to the late 1920s or very early 1930s. I haven't done a thorough dating of the stars, but from a quick study, the David Lee dates the set to 1928 at the earliest since he was a child actor and that was the year of his first role and Lon Chaney died in 1930, so 1931 would be about the latest it would have been released.
