Memories of Atlantic Highlands Businesses

Henry Wheeler asks... "Who Remembers Commercial Atlantic Highlands?"

Antonides
drugstore?
Tuman's
department store?
Paul's
Tavern?
Jack's
Bar and Grill?
Lynch's
shoe store?
Siegfried's
Hardware store?
When the Post Office
wasn't a laundromat?
The Ground Observer Corps
stationed at the yacht harbor?
The race track
boat?

Dender's Chrysler Plymouth dealership
when Mr. Maxon actually pumped gas for you?
And the Chevrolet dealership
across the street?
............. When the Atlantic theater had only one screen
and 25 cent matinees on Saturday?
Flinging Jujifruits
at the front rows?

When Atlantic Highlands
had one bank,
and everyone
used it?
And it looked like
a bank?
............. The A&P
.
when they would grind the beans for coffee
and that wonderful smell?

The Memorial Day flag raising
by the Scouts along Memorial Drive,
which is what everyone called it
until it returned to Route 36.

Finally, Henry asks... "Who remembers ... simpler times ?"
