....................................David Halpen posts..................................... This series of cards is commonly referred to as "Rock & Pop" cards as that is what is printed on some of the card fronts (other titles are "Country & Western", "Rhythm & Blues", and "Behind theScenes"). However, the set should really be called "Hitmakers Trading Cards (For Music Freaks)" which is found on the packaging. This title is not found on the cards except as the listed manufacturer name. Each has a color photo of the music star surround by typical 1970's style colorful borders. The backs contain biographical information on the artist portrayed. =========================================================================================== Art Laboe created this set. He was a LA DJ and started working on the set in 1968. Between 1968 and 1972 he amassed the trading card rights to 600 artists. The plan was to start releasing the cards in 1972. The first series 1-36 was not a success. My understanding is that he released several cards intended as a second and third series for testing purposes. Since the market wasn t there, the set stopped. |
