Notes: Checklist incomplete. French collector Serge Plumecocq did some research on La Cigogne and here are his findings:
I searched for France and I found nothing, I also thought of Belgium...all wrong. In reality it was necessary to go further into deep Europe in ex-Yugoslavia in BELGRADE.
The factory was created in 1922 in Zemun by a French officer Daniel S. Pechmajou (1872-1927) who returned from the Thessaloniki front. He gave a French name to his chocolate LA CIGOGNE (RODA in Serbian-Croatian), dark chocolate.
The factory was nationalized after the Second World War. The brand released several albums on film stars and then on football..."
This set seems to be split up into small groups starting with a roman numeral, followed by the number. The numbers do not start over when a new roman numeral is used, they keep going up. There are at least two different styles of cards used. One style is a narrower card style that looks like it is a reuse of some biscuit-style cards that are used in many different sets as follows:
Many of the La Cigogne B&W cards actually still contain the Q numbers used in the La Pie Qui Chante Q set on their fronts, and they exactly match the numbers used in the La Pie Qui Chante set. The La Cigogne B&W back numbers are different.
The second style of card used in the La Cigogne B&W set is a wider card and looks like it is a reuse of cards from the Conrad Langaard Film Artistes set from Norway.
The thin style cards were used in Series I through Series VI, then the wider style cards were used from Series VII through the later series.
Date info: The La Pie Qui Chante Q Set can be dated to 1932 by a date printed on its album, so all the related sets are likely to be 1932 sets as well.
Thanks to Amit Benyovits and Serge Plumecocq for helping with this checklist.
