Notes: Checklist incomplete. The text translates roughly as 'Duquesne Competition, to the collectors who acquired all 65 Cinema cards numbered 1 to 65, they will be offered either a porcelain service of 74 pieces or 4 pairs of hemmed sheets'. With such a generous offer, it seems likely that some cards were short printed but it is unknown which ones they were. Unusually, the cards are dated as the competition closed at the end of December 1935. The back text is in French, so it is assumed that this set was issued in France.

Collector Serge Plumecocq did some research about the Duquesne Competition and found the following information. The local and regional weekly publication "La Semaine Berrichonne" (published from January 6, 1895, to August 12, 1944) lists the winners of the Duquesne Competition in its February 1, 1936, edition. Specifically, there were 94 winners who each had the choice between a 74-piece porcelain dinner set and four pairs of hemmed bedsheets. These winners were concentrated in just 24 municipalities, distributed as follows:

It can therefore be said that this was a contest with very generous prizes, highly localized within rural, central France.

These cards have the same front as the Dolomie Film Stars (Large Set), Felix Potin Vedettes Mondiales and Matte Fils Sets. Most of the cards appear to be the same in all checklists but not all.

Thanks to Richard Minns and Serge Plumecocq for helping with this checklist.
