Date info: The date for this issue is hard to pinpoint. It has a decidedly 1930s flavor, with most of the stars at their peak during that decade. Jean Harlow died in 1937, so if this set was showing current stars, it would have to have been issued no later than 1938. Yet, there are stars in the set that were not active that early, including Betty Grable, Judy Garland, and Veronica Lake. Lake in particular seems to push the date of this set out to at least the 1940s. She really got her start in the early 1940s and is not usually found in card sets before the late 1940s, mainly because there were very few cards issued during the early 1940s because of World War II. Spain may have been an exception to this rule. Spain was one of the few big countries that was not actively fighting in World War II, and it looks like they continued to issue trading cards during the war years and this set may have been issued during that period.
