Here are some pictures of an original wrapper that was used for these cards. Also pictured is an original piece of Maple Leaf gum.
This set shows a heavy influence of Western Stars, all higher numbered cards (#73-175) show stars in western garb.
This set seems to have been issued in at least several different countries. They were definitely issued in Canada, they were probably issued in the Netherlands and/or Sweden, and there is a version of these that was issued in Malta. There is a German version that differs from the Canadian version in the following way - the first 70 numbers seem to be the same as the Canadian version, but the numbers after 70 all picture different stars, mostly German movie stars. A separate checklist is presented for the German Number in Circle set on the Movie Card Website in the Dutch Gum Cards section. This set was likely sold in other countries, too. There are some differences in the different versions, such as the paper or cardboard quality, minor differences in the writing on the front, and writing on the back. Most of these cards are found with blank backs, but there is a version with a simple "Printed in Holland" on the back.
