Notes: Blank-backed. There is a small box on every card that says "Copyright 1911 Vitagraph Co. of America." There were at least two different newspaper ads that shows that this set was available for mail order purchase directly from Vitagraph. You could buy the whole set for 60 cents or 12 different for 25 cents.
One ad shows a checklist with 33 subjects. A second ad shows a checklist with 40 subjects. Each of the subjects is numbered in the ad checklists to help customers placing orders. There are four subjects that are changed between the two ad checklists (#4, #14, #18, and #22).
An original mailing packet has been found containing 48 different cards, presumably a complete set at the time of purchase. In that group, there are an additional 16 subjects that are not found in either of the ads that have been seen.
In addition, the Zena Keefe card has been seen with her name spelled properly or spelled Zenna Kiefe.
All this adds up to 61 subjects that are known at this time. Since Vitagraph was obviously very fluid in changing the lineup of subjects, it is possible that there may be more subjects out there that have not been reported yet.
Thanks to Dan Calandriello and Cas Thompson for help with this checklist.
