Notes: Unnumbered. These cards show an autgraph of the star on the front and the backs are in green. There is a biography of the star in German on the back. These are anonymous cards with no mention of the issuer on the cards. I originally had them listed as Anonymous Film Stars (Autograph on Front, Green Back). German collector Nick Bolton provided scans of an album used for these cards, which provides the set title of Schutt Beliebte Stars von Film und Schallplatte, which translates to Favourite Stars from Film and Record.

Nick Bolton notes: Carl Schutt provided cards for vending machines - the so-called "Premier-Bild-Automat." By placing a 10-pfennig coin into the machine, a card and a piece of chewing gum (shaped like a ball) would fall down into a slot.

Schutt also issued a further series of "Beliebte Sportler" (Favourite Sports Stars). According to the back of the album, 10 albums were planned, but only 2 were ever issued. A pity, because further planned albums included "Beliebte Filmkunstler" (Favourite Film Stars) and "Szenenbilder aus den letzten Erfolgsfilmen" (Scenes from Recent Successful Films).

In my archive I have original correspondence from a collector to Schutt in Hamburg, where he is trying to complete a further set of film cards issued around the same time, while making enquiries about an album. He receives the reply that Herr Schutt is very ill and that any future letters should be sent to Herr Rudat. Rudat was also in the business of vending machines, and also located in Hamburg. The illness of Carl Schutt could help explain why they did not bring out any more albums.

The title of this series can only be found on the album, it is not mentioned on the cards themselves. There is a specific order in the album, but because the cards are unnumbered, they are listed here in alphabetical order.

Most cards have a facsimile autograph on the front. Those without are indicated in the checklist below.

Date Info: Some films are mentioned on the back and the date for the most recently released film is 1958, so this set must have been issued in 1958 or later. Collector Nick Bolton pins down the date of these as 1960.

Thanks to Richard Minns, Robert Dudek, Ralf Wierz, and Nick Bolton for help with this checklist.
