Notes: Checklist incomplete. In keeping with the cinema name, this series is a complete riddle. The cards themselves appear to be a numbered series from around 1934 - with some scenes identified from specific movies which date from 1933 or 1934 (see checklist). There is no series title, so the generic "Film Stars" has been used. Backs were originally blank but have been stamped on the back in pink with "Sphinx Kino" ("Sphinx Cinema"). All backs are the same. The translation of the back is: "Sphinx Cinema. Every 25th visitor to the premiere in…. on….1946. The Management", and then a signature. It would appear that every 25th visitor received one of these cards, which maybe could have been redeemed for prizes or a free visit... but this is guesswork. The date of 1946 is significant, because this would be straight after the war when everything was scarce and is an early case of "recycling" old paper. The same series was also issued by Anglas (second series).
