Notes: Unnumbered. Film Bildgutscheine (Film Card Coupons). These small coupons were issued in cigarette packets. Coupons were then sent off to Union in return for various cards which were often too large for the packet. For example, 75 coupons were required for an envelope of 25 large film star cards.
8 series of coupons were issued (groups 1-8), with 25 motifs in each series. The 25 motifs on the coupons in each group are the same in miniature as the 25 cards in the corresponding envelope of large cards. 200 different coupons (8 x 25) were issued. Although coupons only reference groups 1-8, the envelopes of large cards continued up to group 16, for a total of 400 cards. See separate entries on Union, Turbaco and Mahalesi "Gross Filmbilder".
Coupon backs refer to a particular group, but motifs are unnumbered. For some reason, all motifs of Shirley Temple were issued with a blank back. Coupons are fairly rare, because after sending them in to Union, they were not returned to the collector.
The back of the cards state various offers including an album which could be obtained by writing to the firm. The backs also refer to Group 1-10 250 Bilder (Cards) and mentions other subjects than just film stars.
